Xbox App 2020 Update Brings Bad News
This Monday Microsoft pushed a brand new Xbox mobile app update. The redesign looks and feels great. However it seems to be missing one important feature …
The option to change and upload a custom profile picture.
We’ll just break the bad news to you quickly. You can no longer upload a custom profile picture / gamerpic through the mobile app.
This news comes as a shock to gamers this week. The ability to customize your photo is a crucial part of the Xbox experience.
It helps express personality and they’re fun! Now how will have funniest profile picture competitions in parties??
Will the Removal Be Permanent?
Back in March, Xbox suspended every users ability to upload a custom profile picture. They experienced a 775% increase in load on their cloud servers.
The increase in demand placed massive pressure on all systems, making it unsustainable for moderators to work through. This drove them to the decision.
They re-enabled the feature again in late June. Things have been business as usual since then, or so it seemed.
We have no information yes as to why they made this decision. I’m sure within the coming days we will have an update on the situation.
For now, hang tight and just hope that your profile picture is stuck on something you can live with.
What to Do in the Mean Time
While the easy route through the app is no longer available. You can still upload a custom image from the Xbox console dashboard.
- Hit the home button
- Scroll all the way to the right to Profile & System
- Click on your profile, then hit “My Profile”
- Hit Customize Profile, then “Change Gamerpic”
- Select Upload a Custom Image in the top right
- Select your images from One Drive or a USB plugged into your console
We hope this change isn’t permanent and will keep you updated on any developments.
