How to Make Terracotta in Minecraft

minecraft terracotta recipe

Terracotta is a Minecraft block that naturally forms from Clay and can be found in plentiful amounts throughout Badlands Biomes. You can also craft it using Clay in a Smelter.

Making Terracotta

Terracotta is simple to make in Minecraft & all you need is some fuel & Clay for the Smelter. Set off to find some Clay & mine what you need (a shovel works the best).

You will receive four Clay Balls for each block of Clay that you destroy. If you use the Silk Touch enchantment on your tools the Clay Block will drop itself.

You must combine four Clay Balls in the Crafting Table in order to make one Clay Block. Take a look at the crafting recipes below.

After you have your Clay blocks smelted you can now head back to the Crafting Table & finish making the Terracotta.

One block of Clay will net you one block of Uncolored Terracotta.

Each piece of Terracotta smelted from Clay will also net you 0.35 experience per block.

Finding Terracotta

minecraft terracotta badlands biome

Terracotta generates naturally in Badlands Biomes throughout the Minecraft world. You can mine it like other resources by using a Pickaxe.

The block spawns naturally & can be one of many colors (red, orange, yellow, brown, white, light gray & uncolored).

You can also find various colored & uncolored Terracotta blocks in small amounts within villages & as building materials found in some Plains Biomes & Desert Pyramids.

Uses for Terracotta

Terracotta doesn’t have any uses other than as a building material in your creative builds. It isn’t used as an ingredient in anything else & isn’t needed progress through the game.

The only benefit Terracotta really provides is its ability to protect structures from Creepers & explosions similarly to Stone Blocks.

This block is mostly cosmetic & overall looks great when integrated into creative builds.
