Getting Started:

There is currently a free trial available for all educators who are interested in getting started with Minecraft Education Edition.

The free trial is not limited on time but rather the number of logins allowed. There are 25 logins allowed for teachers and 10 logins allowed for students.

If you want the full game rather than the trial you will need a license that can be purchased as a yearly subscription from the Microsoft Store for Education or through resellers.

Once the licenses are purchased you will have to assign the licenses to each user which includes both teachers and students.

Minecraft Education Edition can then be installed on supporting platforms of your choice.

Educators will then need to be trained in the Minecraft Education Edition. The Minecraft Education Edition website has a bunch of resources for educators to get trained.

What is Different?

This edition of Minecraft has many unique features to help facilitate classroom learning.

Chalkboards, cameras, and portfolios can be used to help educators outline their goals and collect evidence of student’s learning and progression.

Allow, Deny, and Border blocks allow educators to place specific areas where students can/can not build as well as preventing players for enter or leaving certain areas.

The Education Edition also features a unique update specific to this version and that is the Chemistry Update.

This update puts the elements and periodic table in Minecraft for easier visualization for learning. The elements can be used as decorative blocks or also used as ingredients in crafting, brewing or lab table experiments.

Elements can also be combined into compounds using the unique compound creator block.

Some unique items that can be crafted from compounds include Ice Bombs that turn water into ice, and bleach which can be used to dye things white.
