Konami has revealed that they are training an AI capable of taking Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel players. This AI is stated to be capable of becoming more intelligent the more duels it plays to give players a formidable challenge.

Still, players don’t need to worry about being taken down by an OTK strategy, as its implementation is still in talks.

The first sighting of the Yu-Gi-Oh! AI was seen during the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: The Legend of Duelist Quarter Century event in Tokyo. The AI is stated to be able to eventually beat players over on Master Duel by acquiring experience from multiple duels.

Essentially, the AI becomes more capable when it duels against other players.

The intent is to provide players with challenges against AI opponents to make battles more challenging and engaging.

An announcement made by Konami stated the following: “Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel x AI Project is a project to deliver new ways to enjoy Duels […] by building a system that allows AI to be installed in the game, enabling Duels in Yu-Gi-Oh! MASTER DUEL to be played with the AI created by external programs. The AI program grows and learns through continuous Dueling.”

The event attendees witnessed the AI’s learning process by “seeing the thinking processes of the AI visualized,” including the selection patterns of the AI’s actions, quantifying win rates depending on how Duels developed, and predicting which cards would be played.

As stated earlier, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel players won’t have to worry about facing off against this AI yet, as it’s been said that Konami is currently undecided about implementing the technology in the game itself.

While it certainly would be an interesting feature to see in action, some players might be more interested in facing off against human players.
