Visual Concepts Austin, a studio owned by 2K Games, has recently confirmed the dismissal of several employees. This studio is renowned for its work on popular game franchises like NBA 2K, WWE 2K, and the new LEGO 2K Drive.
Art Director Brad Bowling was among the first to announce the layoffs. On LinkedIn, he shared his experience, stating, “The games industry bloodletting continues.
Today, Visual Concepts Austin laid off me and a group of very talented developers. I have had a great time over the past couple of years working with some of the finest game devs in the industry.”
Bowling reflected on his two years at the company, acknowledging the unique challenges the industry is facing.
Software Engineer Sydney F. also confirmed her departure from the company. She expressed sadness over leaving after a productive year alongside many talented colleagues.
These layoffs at Visual Concepts Austin are part of a worrying trend in the video game industry. Nearly six thousand jobs have been lost in the first month of the year alone. This trend highlights the ongoing challenges and instability within the gaming sector.
