The Walt Disney Company has announced that it will invest in Epic Games. The company has recently acquired a $1.5 billion equity stake in the gaming giant.

This is done to collaborate in new games and expand the entertainment universe connected to Fortnite, giving Epic Games access to a treasure trove of properties that could appear in future collaborations.

The announcement was made on The Walt Disney Company’s website. According to the statements relayed over the blog post, the new universe will interoperate with Fortnite and offer various ways for consumers to play, watch, shop, and engage with content, characters, and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more.

The statement says that players can create their own stories and “express their fandom in a distinctly Disney way.”

“Our exciting new relationship with Epic Games will bring together Disney’s beloved brands and franchises with the hugely popular Fortnite in a transformational new games and entertainment universe,” said The Walt Disney Company chief executive officer Robert A. Iger in the statement.

“This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of games and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion. We can’t wait for fans to experience the Disney stories and worlds they love in groundbreaking new ways.”

Meanwhile, Tim Sweeny from Epic Games said, “Disney was one of the first companies to believe in the potential of bringing their worlds together with ours in Fortnite, and they use Unreal Engine across their portfolio.

“We’re collaborating on something new to build a persistent, open, and interoperable ecosystem to unite the Disney and Fortnite communities.”

Speaking of brand collaborations, it was recently rumored that the following characters to head into Fortnite would be the Power Rangers. The rumor states that the original Power Rangers team might soon be playable in Fortnite, though no specific date was mentioned.
